Imagine the Hotel Room of the Future

What will a hotel room look like in 2050?

Will beds transform at the touch of a button? Could walls become interactive screens? Might furniture move to suit each guest, or could your room grow its own plants and generate its own energy?

In this immersive, hands-on interior design workshop, students will step into the role of a future interior designer and create their own vision for the hotel room of tomorrow.

They’ll explore how technology, sustainability, materials, colour, lighting and clever use of space could transform the way we experience hotels.

Morning — Design

The morning is all about ideas, creativity and developing a strong design concept.

Through creative challenges, drawing, storytelling and guided brainstorming, students will explore what guests might expect from a hotel room in 2050 and how interior designers could respond.

Students will develop their own futuristic hotel room, thinking about:

• Layout and use of space

• Furniture and innovative design

• Colour, texture and materials

• Lighting and atmosphere

• Smart technology

• Sustainability

• Adaptable and multifunctional spaces

Each student will create a final design board bringing their concept together, complete with a floor plan, interior details, colour and material ideas, and a unique name for their hotel room.

No previous design experience is needed — just imagination and an interest in creating spaces.

Afternoon — Build

Using cardboard, craft materials and everyday household objects, students will build a 3D model of their Future Hotel Room.They’ll experiment with scale, structure, furniture and materials as they transform their drawings into a miniature interior.

Perhaps their room will feature a transforming bed, a hidden workspace, smart walls, a futuristic bathroom, robotic room service or furniture that changes depending on the guest.

The afternoon is about experimenting, problem-solving and discovering how an interior designer turns an idea into a physical space. By the end of the day, each student will have designed and built their own miniature hotel room for 2050 — combining creativity, design thinking and hands-on making.
