Architecture

Introduction
The YDA Architecture Pathway gives students a broad and progressive understanding of architectural design. Rather than focusing on one type of project, the programme develops five fundamental areas of architectural practice, allowing students to build their skills across a range of design challenges.
Pathway Structure
The Architecture Pathway introduces students to the way architects observe, think and solve problems. Through a series of practical design challenges, students develop skills in drawing, model-making, visual communication and design thinking while building confidence, creativity and a strong portfolio.
Students progress from understanding architectural fundamentals to developing more complex design solutions. They learn to communicate ideas through conceptual drawings, plans, sections, elevations, models and presentation work, while exploring how architects respond to people, places and the built environment.
Projects become progressively more challenging as students develop their technical skills and begin to think more like professional designers.

The Five Fundamentals
How spaces are organised for people, activities and purpose, including planning, zoning and the way buildings are used.
Space & Function
Shape, form, proportion, volume and geometry, and how these elements influence the character and identity of a building.
Form & Geometry
How architecture responds to landscape, climate, orientation, access, environment and the opportunities and constraints of a site.
Site & Context
Human scale, proportion, movement, accessibility, detail and the way people experience and interact with spaces.
Scale, Detail & Experience
How buildings stand and are constructed, including structural systems, materials, stability and the relationship between structure and architectural form.
