Pattern Making for Textiles Workshop
7 August: 9:30-12:30 Create your repeat patterns for textiles
Service Description
In this exciting, hands-on workshop, students will dive into the art of pattern making for textiles through the creative and tactile process of lino printing. You’ll learn how to design and carve your own repeating motifs, enhancing them with acrylic pens for added detail and vibrant colour. This session covers essential surface design principles—such as repeat pattern structure, balance, and rhythm—alongside the traditional method of lino block printing. Students will experiment with shape, layering, and colour to create striking, original prints that reflect their personal style. In addition to analogue techniques, students will also be introduced to basic methods for digitising their hand-printed designs using AI tools—opening up exciting possibilities for developing their patterns further for digital or commercial use. Your unique prints can also be used in our Paper Dress Sculpture Workshop, should you choose to join. In that session, you'll have the opportunity to apply your own patterns to a wearable, three-dimensional artwork. It’s a perfect fusion of printmaking, design innovation, and fashion-inspired creativity. All materials provided. No prior experience necessary—just bring your creativity!
