Upcycling Fashion Workshop Date: 3 August 2026 Time:09:30–16:30 Cost:£90 (includes all materials and refreshments; please provide packed lunch) Age: Students aged 11+ with a creative spark and an interest in design, architecture, or problem-solving Join our Full-Day Upcycling Fashion Workshop at YDA, where sustainability, creativity, and hands-on making come together for an immersive design experience. Morning Session: Upcycling Fashion Paper Dress (09:30–12:30) In this imaginative and hands-on workshop, students will design and construct elegant paper dress sculptures, taking inspiration from the sculptural work of American artist Carrie Ann Schumacher. Carrie Ann Schumacher is known for her extraordinary paper dresses made from the pages of discarded romance novels. Her work explores themes of femininity, identity, and transformation—turning fragile materials into powerful, thought-provoking forms. Her dresses are not wearable fashion, but rather intricate sculptures that challenge the boundary between fashion and fine art. This workshop introduces fashion as a sculptural art form, encouraging students to think beyond fabric and consider form, structure, and silhouette as essential elements of design. It’s a chance to develop 3D thinking, experiment with construction techniques, and express ideas through wearable sculpture. Suitable for all levels. All materials provided. Afternoon Session: Duct Tape Fashion Design (13:30–16:30) In the afternoon, the focus shifts to bold, experimental making in our duct tape fashion workshop, where no sewing is required. Participants will design and construct distinctive fashion items and accessories using duct tape alone. From statement handbags to bucket hats, this session encourages creativity, problem-solving, and innovative thinking as everyday materials are transformed into wearable design pieces. Participants must bring a packed lunch for the break between sessions. By the end of the day, students will have explored two contrasting upcycling techniques, developed practical creative skills, and produced multiple unique fashion items, all while engaging with sustainable design practices.
